How we Started
The members of Delaware Park Chemical Engine Co. No. 1 dedicate this history to our founders, the men who ran with machines, to all of the firefighters who followed in their footsteps, keeping the volunteer spirit alive; and to all the auxiliary women who support them.
Shortly after its organization in 1910, the Delaware Park Chemical Engine Co. constructed its firehouse on land at what is now 112 Park Avenue, the site of its existing building. Although renovated and enlarged several times over the years, the firehouse retains the core of its original construction.
The firehouse was built on land purchased from William Vanatta. William Fulmer financed the project and Henery Rush supervised construction, which is believed to have been done by the men on a voluntary basis. Vanatta, Fulmer, and Rush all were charter members of the company.
